Parks and Gardens
KISSS sub-surface textile irrigation is ideal for achieving lush, green lawns and gardens while conserving water.
How Does KISSS Work?
KISSS is the only irrigation system designed specifically for use underground. The patented design has millions of absorption points, which allow water to be dispersed faster and more evenly into the soil. By directly targeting the root zone, KISSS irrigation minimises water drainage loss and can distribute fertiliser and aerate soil. KISSS is also a safer way for recycled water to be used.
KISSS is the future of irrigation and is already being used by the Royal Botanical Gardens in Sydney and at Mt Annan, Parliament House, Tumbalong Park and in many regional sports parks and fields.
Benefits of KISSS
- Up to 60% water saving compared to sprinkler irrigation
- Reduced maintenance costs and reduced risk of vandalism
- A targeted, ecological approach to irrigation
- A cost-effective way to reduce water use
- The safest way to use recycled water
- Continued use of the surface during irrigation
The Difference Between Sub-surface KISSS and Sub-surface Drip
Conventional subsurface drip irrigation (SDI) systems discharge water to the soil from emitters spaced at regular intervals along a drip line. Each emitter acts as a point source of water and so the drip line gives rise to a series of circular wetting patterns. Conventional sub-surface irrigation systems must be run long enough to wet the driest region of soil.
KISSS' patented design matches the capillary action of the soil, dispersing water evenly from millions of tiny emitters to create a controlled and uniform wetting pattern. The KISSS irrigation system saves water by creating a wetting pattern that matches the soil capillary action and doesn't saturate the root zone.
Installation and Maintenance of KISSS Products
Proper installation and ongoing maintenance is crucial to optimising KISSS performance.
While installing KISSS is relatively straight forward for both retro-fitting and new ground installation, Irrigation and Water Technologies (IWT) recommends that an irrigation specialist installs the product. Retro-fitting will require trenching and with correct maintenance, turf recovers well.
KISSS Customer Success Story
Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority
The Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority (SHFA) is responsible for creating and caring for some of the most significant harbour foreshore land in Sydney, including Darling Harbour and The Rocks. Leading the way in innovative and environmentally sustainable place management the SHFA is committed to reducting potable water consumption by 80 per cent.
KISSSwas first trialled on lawns outside the Museum of Contemporary Art at Circular Quay and amongst the palms and lawn area at Dawes Point adjacent to the Park Hyatt.
The success of these trials along with the quality of delivery and professionalism of the team led to the recent installation of this solution across the whole of Tumbalong Park at Darling Harbour. The KISSS installation is completely automated, requires minimal maintenance and is achieving superior water savings.
